To
Volunteer at the Kelton House Museum & Garden

he Kelton House Museum & Garden is a Victorian-era house museum
restored, maintained and run by the Junior League of Columbus at 586 East
Town Street. An
exceptional example of the house museum genre, the house has been mostly
unaltered over 150 years while three generations of the Kelton family
occupied it. There is a substantial collection of original family furniture,
garments, decorative accessories and family records.
ommunity volunteers, along with Junior League members
and Kelton House staff, work together to interpret urban life and the
decorative arts in Columbus during the second half of the nineteenth century.
Volunteer
opportunities at Kelton House include: docent, facility management, garden
care, the museum shop, office, and publications.
Kelton
House offers tours by costumed docents to the public. These tours focus
on tales of everyday life, inventions, local government, and holiday celebrations.
The Kelton House is the only stop
on
the Underground Railroad in Columbus open to the public on an ongoing
basis.
